BTSA Inquiry Action Plan

Let me just start off by saying that I can’t believe I slept through the Pi Day Celebration. I was looking forward to that the entire week (Nerdy? Yes.) Yet some how I managed to tire myself out and fall asleep that afternoon.

Inquiry Question for BTSA

Alright, so still a first year BTSA candidate ["BTSA" meaning Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment -- required to clear my credential as a teacher in CA], I’m currently working on developing and researching an “inquiry action plan” that I need to explore and implement into my plans for the next six to eight weeks.

Extra work? Yes. But, I decided to ask explore a question that delves into an area that I’m already actively researching and participating in. How would common assessments and CST scores be affected by implementing strategies shared by others in the school and math blogging community?

It does sound pretty lame, now that I think about it. But I spend hours reading ideas, strategies, and participating in subject alike meetings, or just discussing ideas with other teachers, that I figured it’d be the least amount of work.  At the same time, and I really exploring new ideas and stepping beyond my normal work as a teacher?

Anyhow, the next Algebra II chapter that I’ll be cover is on series and sequences. Of course I will already be stealing and modifying some of the ideas I learn from my fellow Algebra II teachers at my high school, but I may have to do a bit more searching for some interesting ideas on how to present the unit, and maybe some interesting activities that I can steal for my observation cycle with my BTSA mentor.

If anyone knows of any links to anything that might be helpful (or anything even remotely related), I would greatly appreciate it!

Not to mention that having other teachers help out would definitely validate the question that I’m researching.

In other news…

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
